Why Solar Cooking?

Many families in Kenya are going to bed hungry due to the lack of cooking fuel. Some even resort to burning plastics, leading to serious health effects. Firewood is increasingly scarce, posing risks of respiratory illnesses from smoke and contributing to deforestation and desertification. Women and girls face dangers like snake bites, scorpion stings, and sexual violence while sourcing firewood.

We have deployed over 300 Ulog box ovens in the Kakuma Refugee Camp. Beneficiaries report tangible impacts, cooking food using clean energy without worrying about fuel costs.

Solar Assembly

What We Do

Service 1

Solar Cooker Assembly

Eco-Impact Hub CBO does solar cooker assembly, trainings, public demos and distribution. We tailor solar cookers according to the needs of beneficiaries. This entails careful cooker-type and participant selection and local assembling from low-cost materials and local labor. Our plan is to set up Solar Cooker and Fireless Basket assembly and retail outlet in Kakuma Refugee Camp.

Service 2

Solar Cooker Advocacy And Training

We conduct advocacy and sensitization of populations on clean energy solutions to enhance environmental conservation and boost climate change mitigation.

Service 3

Solar Cooker Research and Innovation

Eco-Impact Hub CBO is emerging at a time when the need for sustainable energy solutions for climate change mitigation is paramount. By undertaking research, innovation and advocacy on green energy we are helping societies move a step closer to achievement of SDG 7, ensuring universal access to affordable, sustainable and clean energy.

Service 4

Solar Cooker testing

In collaboration with Solar Cookers International (SCI) & The University of Nairobi (UON) ,we carry out Performance Evaluation Process (PEP) testing for the different types of Solar Cookers at the University of Nairobi, Chiromo Campus. This collaboration has made it possible to have the first Solar Cooker PEP Test Centre in Africa here in Nairobi. The test results become a basis for our continual improvement of the Cookers to make it long lasting and improve its effectiveness in use. We also incorporate the users feedback gotten to decide the best cooking solution for the different regions where we distribute the cookers.

Solar Cooker Distribution

Currently we undertake Solar Cooker Distribution especially in Kakuma Refugee Camp. Our plan is to be the leading Solar Cooker distributor in East Africa.

Service 5

Our Projects

Training

Our sensitization and advocacy programs aim to raise awareness about solar cookers, while our training programs equip clients with the skills to assemble, use, and maintain them. Understanding the health and environmental benefits of solar cookers is crucial. With strong advocacy, improved cook stoves can become a primary cooking fuel source in Kenya, leading to household savings and better living standards by reducing the time women spend gathering fuel in unsafe areas.

Solar Cooker Assembly

We do solar cooker assembly using cheap and readily available materials. This reduces the cost of assembly by a great margin. Through our two solar cooker assembly centers at Kiini Institute of Advanced Technology in Chuka and another one at Kakuma Refugee Camp, we are now able to assemble solar cookers.

Solar Cooker Distribution

We distribute our different types of solar cookers to our esteemed clients. This is done through our assembly and distribution centers.

Research & Innovation

Our continual research is helping us to come up with user-friendly, affordable models. This is how we have managed to increase user acceptance for our solar cookers. Our interviews with our users have provided us with sufficient data that has helped us to continually improve our solar cooker models to fit client requirements.
