Why solar Cooking ?

Many families in Kenya are going to bed hungry due to lack of cooking fuel. Some even resort to burning plastics, certainly with serious harmful health effects. Firewood is increasingly becoming scarce and inconsistent in supply. Firewood use poses significant risks of respiratory illness due to smokes from incomplete combustion. It also leads to cutting of trees and desertification. Women and girls bear the blunt of fuel scarcity when venturing into bushes as they fall victims to attacks including snake bites, scorpion stings and sexual violence.

We have over 300 Ulog box ovens in the Kakuma Refugee Camp. The impact of this initiative is tangible evidenced by testimonials of beneficiaries who are now able to cook food using clean energy without worrying about cost of fuels

By undertaking research, innovation and advocacy on green energy we are helping societies move a step closer to achievement of SDG 7, ensuring universal access to affordable, sustainable and clean energy.

Service 4

Solar Cooker testing

In collaboration with Solar Cookers International (SCI) & The University of Nairobi (UON) ,we carry out Performance Evaluation Process (PEP) testing for the different types of Solar Cookers at the University of Nairobi, Chiromo Campus. This collaboration has made it possible to have the first Solar Cooker PEP Test Centre in Africa here in Nairobi. The test results become a basis for our continual improvement of the Cookers to make it long lasting and improve its effectiveness in use. We also incorporate the users feedback gotten to decide the best cooking solution for the different regions where we distribute the cookers.
